Are there on-site staff at Storage Star facilities?

Almost all Storage Star facilities are staffed by our knowledgeable on-site team members during office hours. Office hours generally run during the business day into early evening 6 days a week, with Sunday typically having gate access only. 


We’re always happy to help you book a unit, assist with bills and paperwork, or resolve an issue for you by phone during office hours as well.

Does Storage Star use sustainable environmental practices?

Yes, two of our facilities are solar-powered, eco-conscious operations: our Napa, CA facility at 300 Devlin Rd and our Cloverdale, CA facility on Industrial Drive.


Unit Sizes & Types

What size units do you have and how much do they cost?

We have a wide variety of unit sizes to meet your needs. Prices and sizes vary by location. Please contact a Storage Star facility near you for more details.

How do I choose the right size unit for my things?

If you give our expert storage team a brief description of what you’ll be storing, we’ll tell you how much space you’ll need. You can also use our handysize guide tool on our storage size guide page.

Do you have boat, rv, and other vehicle storage options?

At most Storage Star locations, we have spaces for boats, RVs, commercial vehicles, semis, trucks, and cars. For more vehicle storage details, click the locations page or find a Storage Star facility near you.

Do you require insurance?

We prioritize the security of our customers’ belongings. That’s why we require insurance coverage for stored items. It’s good to have in case of unforeseen circumstances. You can call or visit your local Storage Star facility if you’d like to learn more about our insurance policies and options.

What should I do if there is damage to my unit?

You must contact the management or staff at your Storage Star storage facility immediately if you find any damage to your unit. Tell them about the damage and let them know all the details. They’ll be able to help you figure out what to do next and ask you for more information as needed.

Do you sell boxes and packing supplies?

We have various boxes and packing supplies available for purchase. If you buy moving boxes and supplies on the lease signing day, you’ll get a 10% discount at participating facilities. For more information, call your local Storage Star facility.

Does Storage Star require storage unit insurance?

Payments & Documents

What is your shortest rental term option?

Our leases are month-to-month, so there’s no need to commit to long-term contracts.

How can I make a payment?

We accept payments by mail, in person, or through our website. You can ask your site manager how to pay through our website or simply click Make Payment on the website of your Storage Star location.

What form of payment do you accept?

We accept Visa, Mastercard, American Express, and Discover! Don’t forget to ask about our credit card autopay program. We also accept checks and cash.

How do I enroll in automatic payment?

You can arrange for payments to be automatically charged to your credit card. Ask your site manager about this feature or use the “My Account” button on your Storage Star location’s website.

How much notice do I need to give when I'm ready to move out?

If you want to move out, please give us a seven-day written notice. We’ll give you full details when you move in. Note that canceling an online account or stopping autopay does not automatically terminate your rental agreement. The rental agreement controls the actual move-out process.

Are there any administrative or move-in fees when moving into a unit?

Yes, there is a one-time, non-refundable administrative/setup fee (typically $25 to $29) charged to process your lease and set up your account. We also require insurance for your belongings either through an existing policy that covers self-storage away from your residence or our convenient tenant protection plan. Finally, you must secure your unit with a high-quality disc lock for security purposes. We sell them in most facility moving stores in Storage Star facility offices, or you can bring your own.

Is there a refund policy?

Any rent that is prepaid beyond the current lease month will be refunded once you’ve moved out. All refund inquiries can be handled by contacting your local facility directly.


Security & Access

What security measures does Storage Star offer?

Storage Star facilities all have the following security measures:

  • Secure perimeter fencing
  • Automatic gates with unique access codes for each renter
  • Well-lit exterior premises 
  • On-site staff completing regular manual lock checks


Some facilities have additional features such as 24/7 video surveillance, on-site management, and motion alarms.

What hours can I access my storage unit?

Our gate access is open every day for your convenience. Office hours and daily access hours vary per location. For more details, please contact the Storage Star facility closest to you or refer to our locations page and select the desired facility.

Do I need to bring a lock for my storage unit?

Yes, you can bring your own lock, but it’s best to use a high-quality disc or cylinder locks; Most Storage Star facilities offer them on-site for added convenience. These types of locks provide stronger protection against tampering compared to standard locks. Choosing a facility with features like 24/7 video surveillance, electronic gate access, and on-site management adds an extra layer of security for your belongings.

How does Storage Star facility access work?

Each customer has a unique pin used to open our electronic gate during access hours, which are typically extended past office hours. If you forget your pin, login to your Storage Star Tenant Portal or contact customer service for assistance.
